Stars

I woke up early this morning and went outside. And there were just too many memories in that one smell. So I chose one of them. I wrote this awhile back and didn't even remember it, until I found it. Hope you enjoy it

A young girl slept, curled up on the ancient couch. Her plump figure dressed in ratty old overalls, the soft hair kissed her tan face. Up, down, up, down, her body heaved. The olld house groaned as she shifted sides, burying her head in the depths of the couch. Springs met her face with a twang. She didn’t awake.

Near the back of the mobile home, a door taunted its opener with screech. A middle-aged man made his way down the narrow hallway. The floor creaked in agony. As he entered the living room, he noticed his daughter rolled up. He peered over her, reaching for an old green blanket. Wrapping her snuggly in the blanket, he scooped the child up in his arms. She gave a slight groan, and opened her eyes. Wide awake.
Walking outside they were met with God’s breath. The air was fresh. Looking around curiously, the child breathed in deeply, taking in the night. Brambles and a more than familiar wood to one side. The wind flirted relentlessly with the rosebushes all over the land. To her other side fields rested under the careful watch on the old moon. The old schoolhouse just down the dirt road gently told the wind to “stop bugging me, I’m trying to sleep.” The wing ignored the old structure, mercilessly chatting away. Further down the road the barn rested. He was used to the wind. The windows were shattered, and the wood was worn, much like a blind old man. A tractor guarded the doorless entrance faithfully. Chamomile and Dandelions kissed the feet of the steadfast soldier, thanking him for the safety he provided.
The girl could taste the night air on her tongue. Silence surrounded them. The crescent moon gently nudged them to look up. In answer to the old Moon’s questions, the father and the daughter turned their heads upward, met with stars. Stars. Stars. They winked at them, blowing kisses. The girl giggled.
Reaching out a hesitant hand , she hoped she might catch one. They appeared to be a special candy, only God made. She wanted to eat one, and suck off all the beauty. As her father held her tight, she stared in awe. Soon however the stars began to sing. Before long, the wind, and the moon joined in on the chorus. The trees sang with power, even the old barn ventured a note or too. The girl found herself raptured into the melody. The night sang, “ You are Holy, great and mighty, The moon and the stars, declare who you are. I’m so unworthy, Still you love me. Forever my heart will sing of how great you are.” Peace clothed the night in God’s majesty, and all creatures sang. Hallelujah!

Matthew 11: 28-30

I had this verse stuck in my head. It reminds me of when we had Church is our neighbors yard, and Mr. Andrews preached this amazing sermon I haven't forgotten to this day. Here's the verse. Hope you find it as encouraging as I.

"Come to me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light."

Just Me and God

The first thing I want to share is this poem that I wrote when I was fourteen. I remember the night I wrote it very clearly. It was during a thunderstorm, and I laid on the sodden ground and welcomed the rain with open arms. After being outside for half an hour I went inside the house soaked to the bone. This is what the Lord gave me that night.

Just me and God
By Emily Kruse

The rain and the breeze
The wind and the leaves
Just me and God
Up in the trees
Leaves and their sound
Crickets on the ground
Just me and God
No other soul to be found

Sound of my tears
Gathered over the years
Just me and God
Fighting my fears

Confusion at hand
Troubles like sand
Just me and God
Something is planned

With a hand of grace
 I see the saviors face
 Just me and God
Descending at a steady pace

The rain has ceased
The wind decreased
Just me and God
My soul released

Asleep on his shoulder
He is my molder
Just me and God
He is my life's holder
